Nestled just outside the enchanting Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada lies a secret haven for adventurers and free spirits: the captivating landscape of Overton Ridge.
While the park itself is a kaleidoscope of fiery red sandstone formations, this neighbouring area offer a serene escape with its own unique allure.
Don’t miss the drone video at the bottom of this post!

Just outside the park, we love to boondock on BLM land at either Snowbird Mesa or Poverty Flats. To the west of this area, Overton Ridge provides a breathtaking backdrop that seems to whisper tales of ancient times. The ridge is a tapestry of hues, painting the horizon with strokes of red, orange, and pink, as if the sky itself had descended to grace the earth.

What makes Overton Ridge even more special is the freedom it offers for drone enthusiasts. While the Valley of Fire State Park has restrictions on drone flying, this adjacent area welcomes you to take to the skies. It’s a perfect opportunity to capture the majestic beauty of these rock formations from an aerial perspective, offering a bird’s eye view of nature’s artistry.

As we set up camp in the quiet expanse of Snowbird Mesa or Poverty Flats, the proximity to Overton Ridge adds an extra layer of magic to our experience. It looks like a dreamscape for ATVers too!

Whether you’re seeking solitude, inspiration, or just a touch of adventure, Overton Ridge near Valley of Fire State Park is a destination that promises to leave an indelible mark on your heart. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most beautiful places are those that lie just off the beaten path, waiting to be discovered.

Flying my drone over Overton Ridge offeeds a rare glimpse into the rugged beauty of Nevada’s landscape from above. As my drone ascended, the panorama unfolded in a spectacle of colour and form, revealing the intricate details of the ridge’s topography. It was a mesmerizing experience, seeing the sun cast its golden glow over the formations, shadows dancing across the terrain.

Hi Anne,
The drone footage was fantastic. Drone photography sure gives a different view of the earth. Nice music. Went well with the video. Continue to have safe travels.
Thanks JT, glad you enjoyed the drone photos and videos. I love flying the drone, it indeed gives a whole different perspective. Thanks for mentioning the music too, I tend to spend too much time trying to get the music just right, but the music makes such a huge difference!
Absolutely stunning video of absolutely stunning geography. Where do you get the music for your background music?
Hi Floyd, thank you so much, very glad you enjoyed it. I get my music licensed via Motion Array.
Been to Valley of Fire and Overton but have never stayed in those BLM areas….yet. Your pics and video are spectacular Anne! Can hardly wait to fly my drone in that area. Safe travels!
Hey Steve! The BLM areas have fantastic views, as you can see! We love going there and it’s just outside the Valley of Fire so it makes for a great spot to stay if you plan on visiting the park. I’d love to see your drone video after your next visit.
Wow! What an alien, yet beautiful, landscape, And what a perfect way to show it to those of us who will never get to see it. The musical choices nicely complemented the footage as well. Kudos and thank you, Anne!
Hi Suzy, so glad you enjoyed the drone photos and video and thanks for your comments about the music. I spent way too much time trying to get the music just right!

So glad to hear you enjoyed it Thomas, I appreciate your comments.
Very nicely captured ! Job well done. I’m amazed just how much ‘color’ is around this late in the season. Last year at this time when we were in Overton Ridge things were a lot gray & brown. The rains have really livened things up for sure… …
That’s true, the rain really does make the colour more vivid. Thanks for your visit and comments!
Stunning. If I finally get around to booking my tour to Australian Kimberly Ranges. for next year. I’ll send you some in return. I’m glad you are more mobile.
Thanks for sharing.
