Salton Sea Sunset

A Month of Boondocking

Ray and I love boondocking. It’s wonderful to be out on our own in the desert where it is quiet, where we can appreciate nature, and be treated to amazing scenery for free.

Well, almost free!

If you’re interested in what is costs us to boondock versus staying in places with RV hookups, check out Ray’s boondocking post.

Today’s Photo: Salton Sea Sunset

One of our recent boondocking spots was at Corvina Beach on the Salton Sea, California.

The Salton Sea has the most unusual beach. It looks like white sand from afar but once you step foot on it you’ll know the difference right away. Barnacles and fish bones!!

I made this image steps away from our RV at sunset one evening. It is a 1/30th second exposure which blurred the birds, but I think that gives it a bit of excitement and a feel for what it’s really like with all the birds flying around.

  1. Interesting, and a fine Salton sunset. I’ve been dry camping on BLM land outside of Joshua Tree for two months now. The cost savings are enormous and the freedom to roam is priceless. Happy trails…

    1. Thanks PJ. We love boondocking also. I’ve seen that land near the entrance to Joshua Tree. We’ve visited quite a few of the BLM spots recently and really love the peaceful open spaces. Thanks for your visit and comments!

  2. Anne, thank you so much for the inspiration. My wife and I are also Canadian RVers traveling throughout this beautiful continent. I have been inspired by your photography and ebooks, and have learned a lot from you. We are now in Arizona and looking forward to a month of exploring. Thanks again,

      1. Hi Anne, we are presently at Gilbert Ray campground west of Tucson and just down the street from the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum (tomorrow’s photo shoot): on to Tucson again for a couple of nights (rodeo) and then up to Picacho State Park. We will be visiting friends in Phoenix and then on to Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction, amazing sunsets and great trails into Superstition Mountain from the 23 – 28 of February. I’d love it if we could cross paths and chat for a moment about RVing, Photography and living around Victoria.

        1. Hi Bryan, that would be great! I think our paths probably will cross around Apache Junction because we are planning on going to Gilbert Ray maybe next week (we were there last year, great spot) and then Apache Junction after that. But we may go somewhere south of Green Valley in between, not sure yet. We don’t really plan too far ahead! But keep in touch, it would be great to meet up.

          1. Hi Anne, we don’t plan more than a few days ahead either: this is an exception because it involved friends. After Apache we will probably head northish. We will be in touch!!
