Sunset at Depoe Bay, Oregon

In between our vists to Cannon Beach and Bandon Beach, Oregon, we stopped to enjoy a sunset at Depoe Bay.

Depoe Bay is always so exciting with the crashing waves on all sides. They have a wonderfully big parking lot so it was no problem to pull in there with our RV, watch the sunset, have dinner, and continue on our way.

I took the opportunity to test out some high speed photography during low light conditions with my new Sony NEX6. I’ll have a full review coming up soon, but I think it did a pretty good job in this situation.

This photo was made at 1/1250 second, ISO 800, f/8 and I used Topaz Denoise in post processing. Please click the image to view a larger version.

  1. Nice shot Anne :-). These new mirrorless camreas are quite impressive in their IQ. I’ve been reading some very favorable reviews about them. Wish I was on the road like you guys! Have fun.

    1. Hi David, thank you for the compliment. I am pretty happy with my mirrorless system. I’m planning on doing a full review soon, but I want to make sure I have tried a number of techniques with it first. I hope you get a chance to go on the road, I highly recommend it 🙂

  2. Anne what a gorgeous image and so well framed.
I am considering a NEX 6 so will be very interested in in your upcoming review. Do you have a completion date?
What lens did you use for this image?

      1. Anne, Your timing is perfect.
I am hoping you can devote some of your review to the usability of the NEX 6 vs other similar cameras with a touch screen, in particular how easy/difficult it is to move the AF point when composing through the view finder.
The “kit” 55-210 has done a great job in this image.

        Many thanks
        Gordon
