I am delighted and honoured to share that one of my photos from China has been published in the New York Times today!
The image is part of the annual “52 Places to Go in 2025” feature and highlights Huangshan, China—a destination I photographed back in 2016. My photo is showcased in a stunning full-page spread at #48 on the list.

The article is now live online here, and the print version will appear on January 18, 2025.
Reading their description, I was surprised to learn that you can now get to Huangshan by bullet-train from Shanghai in only 2.5 hours —a far cry from the arduous journey I experienced back then.
You’ll still be on the hook for the 60,000 steps though.

Hi Ann,
I always enjoy reading your updates and think your images are terrific. I am unable to access the New York Times piece since it requires a subscription. Since you included the links to your China stories, which was the image used for the travel article? Congratulations and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2025.
Hi Carolyn, you don’t actually have to get a subscription, but you do have to give them your email address and then you click “continue without subscription” at the bottom of the screen, and then they send you a link by email. I don’t know why they make it so hard. But the photo they used in the article is the one on this post. In fact, the image in this post is a screenshot of what the page in the New York Times article looks like. Thanks for your comments and all the best for 2025 to you too!
Congratulations! You must be thrilled.
