I’ve never seen a black church before, so the Budir black church was one of the more unusual sights in Iceland. But as interesting as it was, I was mesmerized by the autumn colours on the lava fields as we drove towards it.
Just as we arrived, another tour group came along. They were not photographers so they dispersed themselves all around the church making photography rather difficult. Non-photographers just don’t appreciate our needs! None of us would even consider walking right up to the subject and ruining the photo opportunities.
My new friends on the photo tour took the opportunity to have lunch while waiting for the people to leave, but I just couldn’t have lunch while the lava fields were calling. I decided to abandon the church, lunch, and my fellow photographers, and I went exploring in the nearby lava fields instead.
I loved the colours of the small plants against the rugged black lava.
I used up all my time and missed lunch when I noticed that people were getting back on the bus. When I realized I didn’t make a single photo of the church, I quickly took this shot before boarding the bus for the next destination.

Great landscape photography..love all the pictures..my favorite one is the second one from the top…mountains in the back…colorful rock, lichens, plants in the front..only in Iceland picture!!

Hi Anne – Iceland is so beautiful. I would be like you and munch a granola bar while exploring the landscape. You can eat a sit-down lunch anytime. I love the red in the photo. Is the red in the rocks lichen or plants? Have fun.

I really wanted to get a photo of that church on our last trip but the weather just didn’t work out. I am enjoying your Iceland photos. 🙂
