Kite Festival in Vanier Park, Vancouver

On the coast of BC in spring and early summer there tends to be about five dreary, cloudy days followed by one truly glorious sunny day that is so nice it makes you forget there ever was a cloudy day.

I was happy when I was treated to one of those glorious days while visiting Vancouver! It was just in time to enjoy a kite festival in Vanier Park.

Synchronized kite flying! Each of these kites is being flown by a different person in perfect unison with music. Ah, Vancouver is a gorgeous city in summer time.

This guy can fly three kites at the same time! That’s his wife there who taps him on the shoulder when the music changes because he’s a little hard of hearing. In the image on the right the three kites are in line with each other. One of the kites is tied to his belt so he can move the three independently like in the image below. He can fly them in different directions too!

My favourite kite was this fish.

It was the epitome of a summer day with music, ice cream, kites and walks on the beach. All we need now is a little more heat to warm up the ocean we’ll be ready for a swim! 🙂

Please share!

  1. Which weekend was this Anne? I was at the kite festival in that park the second weekend of June and it was really overcast with not quite enough wind for most of the Saturday. It did introduce me to quad line kites though… Now I have two life time learning curves to climb – mastering my micro four thirds system and mastering the Revolution kite that I bought!

Thanks for the help that your e-books have given me on the photography side.

    1. Hi Kelly, it was the same weekend! I went on the Sunday though. I remember that Saturday was overcast and Sunday it all opened up and it was just glorious! Thanks for your visit and comments.
