One Simple Tree

Simplify.

It’s the word I always think to myself when I’m looking for the perfect composition. A photograph does not have to contain everything.

And, even when you find your perfect subject, that one perfect Joshua Tree, it doesn’t have to dominate the whole frame to tell it’s story.

Part of the story is the simplicity of the surroundings: the desert bushes, the round rocks, the clear twilight sky.

I made this image after sunset within a short stroll of our campground in Joshua Tree National Park, California.

This is the image I chose to show you today in case it is the last day in the world. It isn’t the most dramatic or exciting image but it shows off the beauty of the world in its simplest form.

It is peaceful.

It’s images like this that make me think the world can’t be all bad.

There are good things here too.

I’ll tell you what. If today isn’t the end of the world, I’ll find something dramatic to share with you next time.

Please share!

  1. Thank goodness the world didn’t end. That means I can look forward to more of your work in 2013. The simplicity of today’s image is all to do with that soft light. Simply beautiful. All the best for 2013, Anne.

    1. Hi Laura, it took me some time to discover that the world isn’t all bad. I really did used to think that. It is focussing on the good things when I find them that gives me hope. Thank you so much for your visit and comments.

    1. Awww, thanks Joe!! Well I guess it is not the end of the world after all (hey I think that’s the first time I’ve said that and it wasn’t exactly a metaphor!). Thanks for your comments!
