Or, Or, Or, Or, Or – Part 2

I have to tell you more about those sea lions I showed you earlier this week. (If you missed Part 1 you can check it out here.)

Last year the winter storms destroyed the sea lion’s docks that sit down beside the pier in Newport, Oregon. The docks provide a haul-out place for the sea lions and also give the public a unique opportunity to see them up close.

In the images I made, the sea lions were on a temporary dock shown below.

Now the Newport Sea Lions Docks Foundation is raising funds to replace the docks as well as an isolation cage that helps them separate and treat injured sea lions. If this is a place you like to visit please consider making a donation on their website.

I made these images standing on the pier above the sea lions which offers an excellent point of view. It was one of those days I went out with only one lens so all the images were made with my 24-105L. No giant telephoto lens required!

  1. That certainly doesn’t look like a comfortable place to sleep, then again, it is probably softer than rocks. Nice that you could get so close.

  2. When I lived in San Francisco, I would take visitors to Pier 39 to see the sea lions. It was good fun, but if the wind blew just right…or rather, just wrong, the smell would make you turn a bright shade of green…
